History of Coffee in myanmar

Coffee cultivation and trade began on the Arabian Peninsula. By the 15th century, coffee was being grown in the Yemeni district of Arabica, and by the 16th century, it was known in Iran. Egypt, Syria, and Turkey. In 1714, the mayor of Amsterdam presented a gift of a young coffee plant to the king of France. The King ordered it to be planted in the Royal Botanical Garden in Paris. Missionaries, travelers, traders, and colonists continued to carry coffee seeds to new lands, and coffee trees were planted worldwide.

Missionaries initiated coffee growing in Myanmar in 1885 at Myeik and Dawei. Kayin State (Than Daung area) established coffee farms at the same time produced Robusta coffee, which still continues to the present day. Missionaries introduced Arabica coffee in 1930 in Shan State and Pyin Oo Lwin. From 1930 to 1934 a large, 120 acres, of Arabica coffee plantation in Naung Cho Township Nothern Shan State. In 2005, the total plantation of coffee was 35485 acres.

Varieties
